History of the Cardwell Gallery
In 2000 the site of our Gallery was a derelict old service station building in the main street of Cardwell.
It was created from virtually nothing, the group had no financial resources but it had
imagination & some community members who were willing to give it a go and some generous locals who donated bits & bobs to help out.
Donations of light fittings, paint, flag poles, old display
stands and cabinets and working bees to pull it all together. It is amazing what can be achieved with a little imagination and goodwill.
The building was an empty shell in very poor condition;-locals were
calling for it to be demolished but it offerred us a chance to establish a gallery and arts base for the community.
We are very proud of our little community gallery and we are proud to say that this will
be our 9th year of opening our doors to showcase local art & craft.
